Easements

An easement is a written document signed by the landowner, which grants Cherokee County Electric Cooperative permission to access and use a portion of the landowner’s property to construct, maintain, operate, repair, replace, relocate, and remove any of the necessary components for supplying electricity to its members. The easement must be signed by all landowner(s) or the landowner’s authorized representative before a notary public.

Members must give Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association (CCECA) the rights, privileges, and easements necessary to construct, operate, repair, replace, and perpetually maintain electric equipment and facilities located on the member’s owned or leased property, and in or on all streets, roads, or highways abutting their property.

All service lines providing members with electricity and all switches, meters, and other appliances and equipment constructed or installed by CCECA on the property belong solely to CCECA, and CCECA can access the property to repair or service those items and, upon discontinuation of service, to remove them.

Line Extentions

Relocation of Existing Electrical Equipment

Applicants shall pay a non-refundable contribution-in-aid-of-construction fee for all costs associated with facility relocations.

This is done at the sole option and discretion of Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association (CCECA) .

Ownership of Electrical Equipment

CCECA has complete ownership and control of all electric equipment and facilities, and can serve others from any line or any extension without refunding to a member or members any part of payments made or crediting any bill.

Right-of-Way Clearance

Tree Trimming Policy

It is the intent and goal of Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Association to perform right-of-way tree trimming maintenance on the entire distribution system on a 5-year continuous cycle. Herbicide application is used as part of the maintenance of the right-of-way (ROW), as needed on selected areas determined by management. Policies and common practices dealing with routine right-of-way maintenance are summarized below.

The standard width for distribution right-of-way is 30 feet (15 feet on either side of the centerline) for overhead line and 10 feet for underground. The same widths apply for service wire; however, maintenance of service right-of-ways remains the responsibility of the member/land owner. The Cooperative will disconnect and remove the line when requested and needed (as determined by the Cooperative) in order for the member or his representative to cut and/or trim the service right-of-way.

Clean-up of debris associated with tree trimming will be handled and determined as required on a case-by-case basis. The general practice is to clean up areas such as yards, pastures, and right-of-way that are being mowed and maintained by the property owner. Wooded areas, underbrush, and areas not being maintained by the owner will be left to decompose. Along fence rows, limbs too large to mow over will be stacked along the fence.

For questions regarding ROW, please contact Scott Creech at (903) 683-2248 extension 3088 or email Scott Creech.
