One of those unavoidable monthly bills is your electric bill. Cherokee County Electric Cooperative bills over 13,500 customers each month for the kilowatt-hours used the previous month. These bills are printed and mailed at the end of each month and are due upon receipt. If the payment in full is not received in our office sixteen (16) days after the billing date, the account becomes delinquent. A delinquent notice is mailed to each customer with a delinquent balance. This notice informs the customer of the balance due and that the account is subject to disconnection if the payment in full is not received in our office ten (10) days after the account became delinquent.
Currently, the Cooperatives tariffs for electric service include a 5% delinquent penalty applied only to commercial accounts. The Cooperative has determi8ned it beneficial for all members that a 5% penalty be applied to all delinquent accounts so as to more directly assign the cost of servicing delinquent accounts to delinquent customers.
This change in penalties applied to delinquent accounts has been approved by the Board of Directors and will be effective November 1, 2001. The delinquent amount and the penalty will appear on the delinquent notice.
We will be reminding everyone of this change for a few months in the Coop Power magazine, on the delinquent notices, as well as here on our website. We will also set aside a time during our Annual Membership Meeting in October to discuss penalties on delinquent accounts. Please contact our office if you have any questions.
